Renault Boreal 7-Seater SUV: New Duster’s Big Brother is Coming to India!

Renault Boreal 7-Seater SUV – The Renault Duster has been a highly successful SUV in India, known for its robust build quality and off-road capabilities. Now, Renault is preparing for a comeback with its new generation Duster (5-seater), and alongside it, a larger 7-seater SUV known as the Renault Boreal. This new offering will compete with giants like the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar in the Indian market.

What is the Renault Boreal?

The Renault Boreal, also known as the Dacia Bigster in international markets, is essentially the 7-seater version of the new generation Renault Duster. Both SUVs will be based on the Renault-Nissan CMF-B modular platform. The Boreal will have a longer wheelbase and overall length than the Duster to accommodate a third row of seats and provide better interior space.

Design and Exterior

The Renault Boreal’s design will be heavily inspired by the new Duster, featuring a robust and muscular look. It is expected to have Y-shaped LED DRLs, a bold grille, and pronounced wheel arches. The rear of the vehicle is also expected to feature Y-shaped LED taillights and a large bumper, giving it a commanding road presence. This SUV will certainly make its mark on the road.

Interior and Features

The Boreal’s interior will be similar to that of the new Duster but with necessary modifications to accommodate the 7-seater configuration. It is expected to feature several modern amenities, including:

  • Large Touchscreen Infotainment System: A 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
  • Digital Instrument Cluster: A 7-inch or 10-inch fully digital driver display.
  • Panoramic Sunroof: It could come with a large panoramic sunroof.
  • ADAS: Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, etc.
  • Other Features: Ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charger, powered tailgate, multiple airbags, and a premium Arkamys sound system.

Engine and Performance

The Renault Boreal is expected to share its powertrain options with the new Duster. The potential engine options for India are as follows:

  • 1.3-liter Turbo-Petrol Engine: This engine will generate 148.93 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque, likely paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic (DCT) transmission.
  • Hybrid Option: Renault may also introduce a strong hybrid option for India, combining a 1.6-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack, collectively producing around 138 bhp.

It is also expected that the Boreal might offer a 4×4 drivetrain option, continuing the Duster’s off-road legacy.

India Launch and Price

The global debut of the Renault Boreal is expected on July 10, 2025, followed by its launch in Latin American markets first. In India, the Renault Boreal is expected to launch in the second half of 2026, following the new generation Duster.

Regarding pricing, the ex-showroom price of the Renault Boreal is expected to be between ₹15 lakh and ₹22 lakh. This would make it a strong and value-for-money alternative against rivals like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus.

The Renault Boreal could be a significant product for the company in the Indian market, helping it establish a strong presence in the 7-seater SUV segment.
